Dodgers Notes: Shohei Ohtani Injury Update, 2024 Reliever Joins Phillies, Clayton Kershaw Latest
Shohei Ohtani, who is coming off a historic debut season with the Dodgers, is aiming for a return to the mound by Opening Day 2025 in Japan, despite concerns over a shoulder injury sustained during the World Series. Speaking to the Associated Press after winning his third AP Male Athlete of the Year award, Ohtani expressed his personal goal and what he hope to achieve by the end of spring training.
Nabil Crismatt, who spent part of the 2024 season with the Dodgers, signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. The reliever appeared in five games and earned his World Series ring once he made his debut with the team.
The Dodgers expect Clayton Kershaw to return for the 2025 season, despite the veteran lefty opting for free agency after declining his $10 million player option. Kershaw, 36, is recovering from surgeries to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and a ruptured plantar plate in his left toe. While he has dealt with injuries recently, his shoulder is reportedly in good condition.
