Dodgers Place Starter Emmet Sheehan on 60-Day IL, Option Kyle Hurt Among Roster Moves

The Dodgers announced a few roster moves on Sunday, including placing starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan on the 60-day injured list. They also optioned right-hander Kyle Hurt, while selecting the contract of right-handed pitcher Nabil Crismatt.

Sheehan had yet to make his 2024 debut, as he had been dealing with general body soreness. He was expected to face live hitters this week, but it seems that things took a turn for the worst.

Los Angeles likely wants to be careful with how they play things with the young arm, if anything to make sure that his injuries don’t linger once he comes back. The team has plenty of firepower to work with to hold down the fort without him, so the hope is that he can make a speedy recovery once his time on the injured list is finished.

Sheehan broke out onto the scene last season for the Dodgers, earning a spot on the postseason team. He posted 60.1 innings of work, putting up an ERA of 4.92 in his rookie season.

Kyle Hurt

As for Hurt, he had been with the team to start the year, but there was always a chance that he would return to Triple-A. The 25-year-old has pitched 4.2 innings this season so far, posting an ERA of 1.93 in two games.

Hurt will likely be back with the Dodgers at some point this season but needs a little more time to develop his skills in the minors. He could be a nice weapon to bring back mid-season, to give some rest to some of the more veteran bullpen arms on the roster.

Nabil Crismatt

Crismatt spent last season between the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks. He is viewed as more of a depth piece for Los Angeles but will be given a chance to show what he can do.

Last season, he posted an ERA of 9.82 in seven games with San Diego and a zero ERA with Arizona over two innings of work. The veteran right-hander has been in the league since 2020.

The Dodgers are using this time to see what sticks from some of their pitchers, so expect more minor moves like this to be made. It’s a smart strategy for a team that has far too many talented arms to use, so they need to see who will ultimately make the cut.

One Comment

  1. Crismatt pitched great against the Cardinals. He held them well for two innings before turning them over to Daniel Hudson who threw strikes and stayed out of trouble. Both did well and it was good to see…
