Dave Roberts Says ‘Good Possibility’ Kyle Hurt Makes Team For Dodgers Opening Series vs Padres

Kyle Hurt thoroughly impressed last year when he made his Dodgers debut. The 25-year-old pitched two innings without giving up a hit and struck out three batters. Since then, fans have clamored to see more of Hurt on the major league roster.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Hurt has a good chance of making the roster for the Seoul series against the San Diego Padres.

For the two-game set, the Dodgers are expected to carry more relief pitchers than average. Since they only need two starters, Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, they can load up the rest of the roster with bullpen arms.

This allows Hurt to pitch in more major league innings. While he has performed well this spring, with an ERA of 0.00 in 3.2 innings, many believe he will not break camp with the team.

This spring, Roberts revealed that the Dodgers want to stretch Hurt out as a starter. If that is the case, he has a lot of competition for innings.

Gavin Stone is in line for the team’s fifth starting pitching spot. Then, sometime later this year, the team expects to get back both Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw.

So, that makes whatever innings Hurt can get in these two games all the more valuable. He is hoping to make the roster once the team returns from Korea, but everything remains fluid right now.
