Dodgers Provide Timeline For Evan Phillips’ Return from Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to get some reinforcements on the mound this week. Star closer Evan Phillips is on track to be activated from the 15-day injured list on Friday. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters prior to Tuesday’s doubleheader in New York.

Phillips suffered a Grade 1 right hamstring strain on May 3 and was placed on the IL a couple of days later. He was eligible to return on May 19. The 29-year-old was spectacular on Sunday in his first rehab outing with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. He faced two batters and used nine pitches to get two outs in Tuesday’s game for Rancho, finishing with a strikeout in his second rehab appearance.

Phillips will join the Dodgers on Friday when they return home against the Colorado Rockies, if all goes as planned.

Phillips will likely step back into the closer role he established for himself in Los Angeles. The 2024 season has so far been phenomenal for Phillips. He’s recorded a 0.66 ERA, 17 punchouts, a 1.02 WHIP, and eight saves — tied for 17th in the big leagues.

Phillips last pitched on May 3 against the Atlanta Braves, where he pitched one inning, struck out one batter, and recorded zeros across the board.
