Dodgers Reportedly Agree to Bring Back Daniel Hudson on Minor League Deal

The Dodgers are reportedly bringing back veteran relief pitcher Daniel Hudson on a minor-league contract. If he makes the team, he will earn $2 million, and possibly $2 million more in performance bonuses. ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Passan was the one to break the news.

Getting Hudson back on a minor-league deal is a great move for the Dodgers. He has been one of the more relied-upon members of their bullpen when he has been able to stay healthy.

He was only able to appear in three games with the team this past season but did pick up a save in the process. His return from a torn ACL was incredible for the team, but it was short-lived.

He worked back from a torn ACL that he suffered during the 2022 season. But fate had cruel intentions for him, as just a few games later he injured his MCL, ending his season. There was some thought that he could return for the postseason, but it never came to fruition.

During the 2022 season, he posted an ERA of 2.22 and a WHIP of 0.90 over 25 appearances. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts quickly became a big fan of Hudson and seemingly trusted him in big spots.

This move is very low-risk for the Dodgers but has the potential to be very rewarding if he gets back to form. L.A. already had one of the best bullpens in the league without Hudson, so adding him only will help.

The Dodgers continue to put together a very solid roster for 2024, and they are just getting started.

  1. Glad to see guys (Kelly,Treinen) and now Hudson coming back that were question marks in the bullpen coming back.i like how the writer also terms this as low risk ($2 mil + incentives) which I think it is. Treinen is another example of low risk $1 mil (plus more maybe) But it’s interesting that I saw a handful of writers (not necessarily here at Dodgers Nation) actually criticize the Dodgers for resigning Treinen which I thought right away it’s because they don’t care for his Christianity and politics. I think Treinen is a good teammate and truly wants the best for his team and teammates.
