Dodgers Reportedly Made Offer For Garrett Crochet But Chicago Rejected It

The Chicago White Sox have fielded calls from 15 teams and the Los Angeles Dodgers were on them. The offer was quickly rejected, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

The White Sox have informed teams they are seeking young prospects with enormous upside. They have tried discussing an extension with their, but haven’t reached an agreement and there’s little optimism that they will. The team intends to trade him by the July 30 deadline.

Crochet has been plagued by injuries throughout his career and had elbow surgery in 2022. He already has 94.1 innings under his belt this season, which is more than he has ever thrown in a single season since making his big league debut in 2020. It’s also 21 more than his entire career total entering the year.

However, if the White Sox decide not to move him at the deadline, there is a plan in place to limit his workload in the second half.

In parts of four big league seasons, Crochet is 9-13 with a 2.90 ERA in 89 games (17 starts). This is his first season as a starter and he is 6-6 with a 3.05 ERA.

The upside for any team acquiring Crochet is that he is under team control through 2026 and only making $800,000. A team may have to offer a contract extension for him to lift those innings restrictions in the second half because of the potential of an injury risk.

With the White Sox sitting in the cellar of the American League, Crochet will most likely welcome any opportunity to compete in the postseason.

  1. Wonder who?
Probably a crappy deal on both sides. It’s obvious Wsox want 2 farm stars for him. Probably that and maybe a high ceiling guy as well.
They’ll want Wrobleski, Knack n DePaula. Dodgers pawning off: Cartaya, Knack n a nobody

  2. Acquiring pitching at the trade deadline this year is, in my opinion, the best move the Dodgers can make. Acquiring Crotchet would be my most important target. Acquiring pitching is a way the Dodgers can weather their putrid offense…outpitch the other team and hope Shoo-Hee, Frinkman or Teo get a hold of one. We have the bullpen. Dominate with starting pitching is what I recommend. Also, my vote is move Mookie back to RF when he comes back. Platoon Heyward and Pages in CF unless the rookie gets dealt. Aside from Shoo-Hee, the Dodgers offense puts me to sleep every night…you can almost guess strikeout, popup or weak roller to second base more than half the time.
