Dodgers Rise in Latest National MLB Power Rankings
The Los Angeles Dodgers are rising in Newsweek’s power rankings.
Even while dealing with critical injuries to several of their star players like Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Mookie Betts, the Dodgers managed to reach 50 wins this week and rise to No. 3 in Newsweek’s weekly rankings.
The Dodgers are now ranked only behind the first-place Philadelphia Phillies and second-place New York Yankees. Rounding out the top-five are the Cleveland Guardians in fourth and the Baltimore Orioles in fifth.
The Dodgers rose after winning five of their last seven games. They are currently on a four-game win streak. They swept the Chicago White Sox in their three-game series ending Wednesday, and will play the rival San Francisco Giants for three games starting Friday night in San Francisco.
It certainly helps the Dodgers that two of their biggest stars, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, have been producing well over the last couple weeks. Ohtani set a Dodgers franchise record with 10 straight games with an RBI, and has a home run in five of his last six games. He was named the National League Player of the Week earlier this week as well. Freeman has also gotten hot, riding a four-game hit streak and with multiple RBI in each of his last two games.
On top of their hitting, the Dodgers have seen some standout pitching this week. Gavin Stone pitched all nine innings in a shutout game while James Paxton also didn’t give up any runs in five innings.
The Dodgers now take on the Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks. If they win the majority of these games, they should keep their place in the rankings.
