Dodgers Rookie Bobby Miller Gets High Praise from MLB Analyst, ‘This Guy Starts Game 1 of a Playoff Series’

Despite a rocky outing against the Giants last night, Dodgers rookie Bobby Miller has been incredible since debuting last month. Before things got away from him in the fifth inning on Saturday night, Miller had dominated three of baseball’s best lineups in his first four starts.

He’s not only made it clear that he belongs in the MLB, but he’s proved that he can be a top-of-the-rotation starter for the Dodgers for years to come.

Over on MLB Network, current analyst and former Cy Young Award winning pitcher Jake Peavy broke down Miller’s incredible dominance over his first four starts.

I highly recommend you watch this entire segment from Peavy, as he breaks down how the Dodgers rookie has been able to put away some of the game’s best hitters. He specifically goes into Miller’s sequencing against a few All-Star left-handed hitters, and shows how he doesn’t back down no matter who he’s facing. You can watch the whole breakdown here:

At the end of the breakdown, Peavy had one quote that really stood out to me. The praise can’t get much higher for a pitcher just four starts into their MLB career.

“This Bobby Miller guy, at 6’5″, 220 (pounds), is big, is electric, and he’s got the composure and the attitude that you want to see from a top-end starter,” Peavy said. “This guy starts Game 1 of a playoff series in my mind. He’s been incredible.”

Funny enough, I’ve been saying the same thing about Miller. Right now, unironically, I think Miller would be the Dodgers’ best choice to start Game 1 of a postseason series — he’s looked that good.

You could say that hitters will start to figure him out the more film they get on him — and yes, his ERA isn’t going to stay below 1.00 forever — but it’s clear that he has the stuff and the command to get just about anyone out at the big league level.

Miller has been the greatest silver lining in an otherwise tough year for Dodgers starting pitching, and even when everyone gets healthy, Miller has made it clear that he deserves a spot in this rotation for the foreseeable future.
