Dodgers Rumors: Padres Add Another Bat, Pick Up Brandon Drury

The Padres went out and picked up another rumored Dodgers trade target just ahead of the trade deadline. Today, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that San Diego is matching up with the Cincinnati Reds to acquire infielder Brandon Drury.

The journeyman utility man is in the midst of a career year with the Reds. In 92 games, Drury has hit 20 home runs with a .274 average and .855 OPS.

With the addition of Drury, the Padres continue to reshape the NL West as they attempt to catch up to the Dodgers. Over the last 24 hours, San Diego GM AJ Preller has picked up All-Star closer Josh Hader from the Brewers, and of course, Juan Soto and Josh Bell in a blockbuster deal with the Nationals.

Entering play on Tuesday, the Padres own a 58-46 record, 5th best in the National League. If the season were to end today, the Show Pads would match up against the Atlanta Braves in a wild card round with the winner facing the Dodgers in the NLDS.

With just over one hour until the deadline, there’s still hope that LA can make a splash bigger than slugger Joey Gallo. To stay up to date, tune into Dodgers Nation on YouTube as we live stream from 2PM – 4PM PT.
