Dodgers Sign Former Red Sox Reliever to Minor League Deal

The Dodgers made an under-the-radar minor league addition on Monday morning, signing longtime MLB reliever Ryan Brasier to an MiLB deal. Brasier confirmed the news to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com on Monday.

Brasier has been in the league since 2013, when he made his debut with the Los Angeles Angels. He was then out of the league until 2018, spending some time in the Oakland Athletics minor league system and in the Nippon Professional Baseball League.

Then, in 2018, Brasier resurfaced in the MLB with the Boston Red Sox, where he’d spend the next six seasons.

His best year in Boston was in 2018, when he had a 1.60 ERA in 34 appearances, and even made two appearances in the World Series against the Dodgers.

Brasier then had some good and some bad seasons over the next five years, and struggled in 2023, sporting a 7.29 ERA in 21 innings pitched.

In May, Brasier was designated for assignment and has been searching for a new home. Three weeks later, he’s now getting a chance with the Dodgers.

Brasier is obviously MLB ready, so he could make an impact on this team sooner rather than later. He struggled with Boston this season, but a change of scenery could always help, especially when that change comes with a team like the Dodgers, known for helping pitchers get back on track.

There’s obviously no risk in this move, as it’s just a minor league agreement. But if the Dodgers decide that they think Brasier could make a positive impact on this team at some point this season, they can give him an opportunity.

  1. He can’t be any worse than the current relievers who continue to hurt the Dodgers!
