Dodgers’ Tommy Edman Has Ankle Injury, Hopeful to Return to Lineup on Friday

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Tommy Edman was out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Miami Marlins. Dodgers insider David Vassegh revealed on the SNLA broadcast that Edman tweaked his ankle in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s 15-2 win.

While the Dodgers don’t think Edman is dealing with anything severe, the team wanted to get him two straight days off — with the scheduled off-day coming on Thursday — ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves.

Vassegh said the team is hopeful Edman will be in the lineup on Friday.

Edman, 29, is off to a red-hot start this season, slashing .252/.295/.523 with eight home runs, 24 RBIs, and an OPS of .818. Edman had played in all 30 games entering Wednesday, as he was given a day off on Monday but entered the game in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter. He stayed in the game and ended up hitting a walk-off, two-run single.

Now, Edman will get treatment on his ankle in the hopes of being ready for Friday’s game. In his absence, utility man Kiké Hernández was in the lineup on Wednesday and playing second base.
