Dodgers Trade Target Garrett Crochet Being Dealt to Red Sox in Blockbuster Move

The Chicago White Sox are finalizing a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox that will send Garrett Crochet to Boston to fortify their rotation. Crochet was a longtime Dodgers trade target.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan was first to report the move.

Going back to Chicago is four prospects: Catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth, and right-handed pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez. All four of them were top-15 prospects from Boston’s organization.

This is a steep haul from Boston, but Crochet was one of the top players on the market. Not only is Crochet inexpensive, but he has two more years of team control.

Crochet was highly sought after at the 2024 trade deadline, and the Dodgers were among the teams pursuing him. This offseason, it was reported that L.A. was at the forefront of trade talks for Crochet. However, it’s currently unknown if the Dodgers made a strong push to add him following the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Blake Snell.

Crochet, 25, made his first All-Star appearance in 2024 after transitioning from a reliever to being a starter. He made 32 appearances last year, sporting a 3.58 ERA with 209 strikeouts across 146 innings pitched.

Now, Crochet will headline the Boston rotation for at least the next two seasons, but the Red Sox should look to extend him.

  1. Let see if he accepts the trade as he said before he won’t play unless the team getting him agrees to a multi-year extension. That’s a big risk for a team willing to give up a haul of top 15 prospects.
