Hyun-Jin Ryu (12-5, 3.39 ERA) has the chance tonight to help the Los Angeles Dodgers take the season series against the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim for the first time since 2006. After a 2-1 victory over the Angels last night the Dodgers have momentum going into tonight’s matchup.
Ryu has been stellar this season on the road going 8-2 with a 2.89 ERA and has been just as good since the All-Star break going 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA. In his last start, Ryu gave up two runs in seven strong innings that led to a 5-2 Dodgers win on Saturday. For Ryu, he has only had one career start the Angels in what could have arguably been on of his best starts since joining the Dodgers. He threw a two-hit shutout at home against the Angels last season.
On the mound for the Angels will be C.J Wilson (8-7, 4.74 ERA) who hasn’t been sharp as of late losing his last start, giving up six runs in a 10-3 loss against the Tampa Bay Rays. Wilson’s ERA at home this season isn’t impressive either at 4.06 but does have a 6-1 record at Angel Stadium this season. Wilson was hit hard in his last matchup against the Dodgers giving up six runs in a 8-7 loss at Dodgers Stadium last May.
One player to look out for in tonight’s matchup is Matt Kemp who has six homers in his last 12 games. He has been quite sparkplug for the Dodgers as of late and has truly revitalized his season.
For the Angels, Mike Trout hasn’t done as well hitting only .250 against the Dodgers in three games. Hit bat has slowed down a bit since the All-Star break with .266 BA.
In a lineup note, second baseman Dee Gordon gets the night off with Justin Turner filling in and Hanley Ramirez will be at DH tonight will Miguel Rojas starting at shortstop.
