Dodgers’ Walker Buehler Appears to Have His Velocity Back

The 2024 regular season is underway, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are off to a great start. The pitching was phenomenal in a win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday in Seoul — impressive, considering the number of injuries they’ve already sustained this season.

If you think the pitching is dominant right now, wait until they get healthy. The Dodgers are missing several arms, including possibly their best pitcher: two-time All-Star Walker Buehler.

Buehler will pitch this season, hopefully sooner rather than later. The right-hander is ramping up for his return after missing all of 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. It seems as if all is going well in his rehab program.

The 29-year-old sat down with Peter Appel and Jack McMullen over at “Just Baseball,” saying his latest bullpen session was as good as it’s been.

“My last [live BP] went well. I threw three innings, was up to 97 mph, which was pretty good for me.”

This is tremendous news for the former First-Team All-MLB pitcher.

Buehler last pitched in June 2022 before suffering an elbow injury that ultimately led to Tommy John surgery and a flexor tendon repair. It’s been too long since we’ve seen number 21 on the mound, and the anticipation of seeing Buehler pitch again is palpable.

Unlike years past, the Dodgers don’t need Buehler to be a workhorse or an ace in 2024. They just need him to be competent and complementary to their other starting pitchers.

A healthy Buehler should capable of doing just that.
