Former Dodger Noah Syndergaard Exits First Start With Cleveland Due to Injury

Former Dodgers pitcher Noah Syndergaard made his first start with his new team, the Cleveland Guardians, on Monday, and did well before an earlier-than-expected exit.

The former All-Star pitcher ended up in Cleveland after a one-for-one trade between him and Amed Rosario occurred earlier in the week before the trade deadline.

Syndergaard joined the Dodgers roster this season looking to revamp his career after some injury setbacks. The 30-year-old pitcher only pitched 55.1 innings for Los Angeles dealing with injury and a lack of put-away stuff in his outings he managed a poor 1-4 record in 12 starts with a disappointing 7.16 ERA to boot.

Dawning a new uniform, the once fireball-throwing prospect looked to start a new in Cleveland.

Syndergaard caught up with the media after the game explaining the early exit.

“As far as my calf, it feels worse now than it did when it actually happened,” Syndergaard said. “It just made it a little difficult to trust my back side, and [Francona] didn’t want me going out there compensating because of it and potentially risking a different injury.”

Even with throwing 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball, the Guardians fell apart in the 6th giving up 4 runs, including a 3-run shot by Yordan Alvarez. The Guardians ended up dropping the game to the Houston Astros 7-3.

Dealing with nagging injuries during his time with the Dodgers, one can hope that this scenario ends in a quick recovery and getting him back on the mound without having to miss any time.

The Guardians remain in contention in the weak AL Central, and are hopeful of winning the division after all 162 are finished.

Hopefully, the new Guardians pitcher will not have to miss time for his new ball club and finish the year stronger than he started.

As for the Dodgers, hopefully Rosario gives them much more than Syndergaard did in his 12 starts with the team.
