Former Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger Says Michael Busch ‘Fits So Well’ in Cubs’ Clubhouse
Former Los Angeles Dodgers Cody Bellinger and Michael Busch have reunited on the Chicago Cubs now that their tenures with the Dodgers have ended.
Both players were drafted by the Dodgers and emerged as prospects as they rose the organizational ranks as first basemen. Bellinger in particular got off to a fantastic start. He was an NL MVP, the NL Rookie of the Year, and a two-time All-Star.
After the 2022 season the Dodgers non-tendered Bellinger, allowing him to pursue free agency. He signed with the Cubs, winning NL Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2023. Following Bellinger’s departure, Busch came in to replace him at several points of the season, but was traded to the Cubs in January.
While neither player stayed with the Dodgers, Bellinger is thrilled to have Busch back on his team again.
“He’s amazing, an amazing person, an amazing dude, and an amazing player. We can all talk about the bat, but he looks really, really good. He’s a great, great dude, and he fits so well into this clubhouse. I’m so happy for him to see the results.”

Bellinger has also gotten to see Busch grow as a player now that he is on the Cubs. With Chicago, Busch has seen way more opportunities to play and appear in the lineup. After appearing in just 26 games during the 2023 season for Los Angeles, Busch has already competed in 18 games less than a month into the 2024 season. He’s slashing .317/.400/.667 with six home runs and 13 RBIs this year, topping both his totals from a year ago.
“It was such a tough lineup for him to crack in LA. And now he’s got an opportunity, and he’s running with it.”
