Former Dodgers Favorite Justin Turner Rumored to be Atop Free Agency Wish List for NL West Rival

The MLB offseason is a full go, and it’s time for the Dodgers to make good on their promises to upgrade the team. They are expected to be aggressive in doing so, and it could see them reunite with one of their former fan favorites.

Former Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner recently declined his player option for next season, making him a free agent for the second consecutive year. He showed that he still has plenty left in the tank, despite mainly being a designated hitter at this point in his career.

Turner can provide value to any club as a solid bat in the lineup, and a great locker room presence. There has been talk about a potential return to Los Angeles with Turner, but LA will wait to see what happens with their more preferred designated hitter options.

However, it does seem that one of the Dodgers division rivals has some interest in Turner this offseason. MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting that the Arizona Diamondbacks have an interest in Turner, and he is atop their free agency list.

“The Arizona Diamondbacks, who desperately want a third baseman, plan to pursue free agent Justin Turner, who exercised his opt out with the Boston Red Sox. He is atop their wish list.”

It would sting to see Turner wear a Diamondbacks jersey, but it does make sense for them to have an interest in him. Coming off an appearance in the World Series, Arizona will likely be looking for more veteran voices in the locker room, and Turner could help them exponentially.

In his lone year with the Boston Red Sox, Turner hit .276 with 23 home runs and 96 runs batted in. He also had an OPS of .800, showing that he can still rake at his advanced age.

The hope is that Turner signs elsewhere, preferably outside of the NL West if he doesn’t return to the Dodgers. He has earned himself a nice contract this winter, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
