Former Dodgers Outfielder Signs With NL West Rival: Reports
Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Tim Locastro has reportedly signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres, according to multiple reports.
Locastro spent parts of two seasons with the Dodgers (2017-18), appeared in 21 games, and collected two hits in 15 plate appearances.
The 31-year-old, who is known for his speed, spent last season with the New York Mets. He appeared in 43 big league games and another 19 minor league contests while missing time with a thumb injury that required surgery.
Locastro has lost some foot speed but he is still considered to be one of the fastest players in the game. He has swiped 45 bags in 50 attempts in the major leagues.
As of now, the Padres only have three outfielders on their roster with the possibility of a fourth in prospect Jackson Merrill. Locastro is a depth player with plenty of major-league experience who can play any of the three outfield positions. He can also come off the bench as a pinch runner.
Overall, he has spent parts of seven seasons with the Dodgers, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the New York Yankees, and the New York Mets. He has a career batting average of .228 and has scored 100 runs in 290 games.
