Freddie Freeman, Gavin Lux Statuses Revealed for Dodgers vs Mets NLCS Game 2

The Los Angeles Dodgers won’t have their full complement of starters on Monday in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets.

Manager Dave Roberts told reporters a few hours before the game that while Freddie Freeman will be in the lineup and playing first base, Gavin Lux, who exited Game 1 with a hip issue, will not be in the lineup. Roberts added Lux is available off the bench in a pinch-hit situation, but he won’t play defense. The team is hoping a day off on Tuesday gets him back to full strength ahead of Wednesday’s Game 3.

Freeman is continuing to play through his ankle sprain that he suffered at the end of September. He has hits in three consecutive games, including a 2-for-3 performance in Sunday’s Game 1 win. He’ll look to continue getting on base and driving in runs for the Dodgers.

As for Lux, Roberts said his hip flexor tightened up. However, the Dodgers were thinking about sitting Lux in Game 2 anyway, as the Mets are sending the left-handed Sean Manaea on the mound. Now, he’ll get an opportunity to potentially get two full days off before Wednesday.
