Gavin Lux Update: Dodgers Shortstop Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery
A week after learning that he would, in fact, be out for the season, Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux underwent successful surgery on his injured right knee. The surgery was performed in Los Angeles by the renowned Dr. Neal ElAttrache, and manager Dave Roberts confirmed it “went well,” per Fabian Ardaya. He also said that in addition to the torn ACL, they were able to confirm that Lux’s LCL damage was “more than a sprain.”
Lux injured his right knee on an awkward running play two Mondays ago. He was attempting to get out of the way of a throw while running to third base where, as he explained, his cleat got stuck and his leg straightened out a little funky.
There’s still no exact timeline for Lux’s return, but almost definitely it’s not any time this year. Recovery usually takes 8-10 months, and with Lux playing the shortstop position, it’s likely the smarter play to bet on the longer end of the spectrum.
In his place at shortstop, Dodgers manager said veteran infielder Miguel Rojas will get “75-80%” of the starts with Chris Taylor filling in for the time being.
Dodger fans shared an outpouring of support for the injured Lux and will be ready to welcome him back at spring training 2024.
