Giants Giving Away Mickey Mouse Ears When Dodgers Come to Town This Year

The San Francisco Giants have a very interesting giveaway scheduled on their calendar. On June 30, when the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers come to town, the Giants are giving away Mickey Mouse ears.

The Giants are calling it “Disneyland Day,” and the first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive a special pair of Mickey Mouse ears.

There’s no way of knowing the exact intention behind this promotional giveaway by the Giants, but it’s hard to not see it as a shot at the Dodgers.

A “Disneyland Day” would make more sense if the Angels were in town, considering they play in Anaheim, right next to the Happiest Place on Earth.

As for why it could be a shot at the Dodgers, the term “Mickey Mouse” has become a negative way of describing wins in sports following the Los Angeles Lakers’ win in the NBA Bubble at Disneyworld.

Some people refer to the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series championship as a “Mickey Mouse ring,” due to the fact that it was only a 60-game season and it wasn’t played in front of fans.

The Giants and Dodgers don’t like each other, and just this week, two Giant pitchers spoke about what the Dodgers were doing this offseason. Former Dodger Ross Striping said the team was in “full villain mode,” while ace of the Giants Logan Webb said way more bluntly, “There’s just something about those guys that you don’t like. Can’t explain it.”

Dodger fans had some mixed reactions to this giveaway:

  1. Typical Giants. Anaheim would be more fitting, but it would seem they need a geography lesson.

  2. I mean their team is absolute trash and boring as hell so the franchise has to do something to engage the fans. They can have their Mickey Mouse day and 3 in 5 from a decade ago. I’ll take Mookie, Freddie, Shohei, Yamamoto and the rest of the Dodgers all day. Enjoy 4th place Giants fans!

  3. Once again, SF’s identity seems to be more about how much they hate the Bois en Bleu than about anything their own team can do. The Dodgers may have a humongous payroll, but they’ve been living rent-free in the heads of Giants fans for years.

  4. Yeah, cuz Mickey Mouse teams spend over 1 billion in trying to win. What’s Mickey Mouse is only giving away 15,000 to a game. Well, maybe that’s all they expect to have in attendance. Also, Logan Webb, MLB leprechaun, should just shut up. Maybe the Dodgers are hated because they win? Perhaps they should try that.

  5. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the Dodgers sweep the Giants in San Francisco that week/weekend? Then us Dodger fans could celebrate that the Giants couldn’t even beat a “Mickey Mouse” team!!
