Giants Interview Dodgers Bench Coach Bob Geren for Managerial Opening

The Dodgers continue to be fleeced by the San Francisco Giants as the ‘hated ones’ try to gain momentum towards relevance once again. After a 77-85 showing in 2019 for the Giants, GM Farhan Zaidi — obviously, the former Dodgers GM — is looking to pick apart the Dodgers’ front office and coaching staff. This time around, it is Dodgers bench coach Bob Geren.

According to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, San Francisco has interviewed Bob Geren for their managerial vacancy.

Earlier this week, it was reported that former Dodgers scouting director and ex-Phillies manager Gabe Kapler was being interviewed for the Giants’ managerial vacancy, as well. In addition, the club has interviewed Astros bench coach Joe Espada.

Geren, now 58 years old, has managerial experience with the Oakland A’s — another possible sticking point for Zaidi considering Zaidi was a member of the A’s’ front office at the time.

Geren is quite the asset to have in the dugout as he is very honed in on analytical baseball. He worked as the bench coach of the New York Mets. Prior to his work with the Dodgers, Mets GM Sandy Alderson had nothing but good things to say about Geren. Alderson praised Geren for his ‘statistical aptitude’ and ‘strong working knowledge of advanced analytics’. With the way Zaidi is, there is no doubt Geren is near the top of the list for this job opening.

If Geren does depart from Los Angeles, it will be interesting to see who the Dodgers replace him with as their bench coach.

Daniel Preciado

My name is Daniel Preciado and I am 19 years old. I am a sophomore Sport Analytics major and Cognitive Science and Economics dual minor at Syracuse University. When I am not in New York, I live in Whittier, California --- not too far from Chavez Ravine. I am pretty old-school for being an analytics guy and I will always embrace debate. Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.

  1. First of all to bad Bob Geren is not the LA Dodgers manager this guy knows how to manage MLB team with all talents this team have there were no excuse for this team to be eliminated in the first round of the play off he is a Team Manager not a play favorites manager.

    1. Bob Geren’s managerial record 334 – 376. He may have talent with stats, but his baseball acumen has never been displayed. Dodgers would be better off if they replace Geren by promoting first base coach George Lombard, or hire a MLB savy bench coach like Buck Showalter and let the quality control coach handle the stats.

  2. I hope Zaidi steals many people away the Dodgers ownerships deserves to fail miserably and what better than to have frisco finish their rebuild in a few years and win another before the Dodgers ever win once

  3. Im sure if the guy wants to win a world series he’ll leave, why would he stay to win division titles? It’s a no brainer. The Dodgers should let a division rival win to avoid a decade of division titles without a world series. Their already the laughing stock of baseball, hopefully the world will forget with a couple of loosing seasons.

    1. True they need to F off already they’re just wasting playoff appearances and taking them other teams while also embarrassing their fans and wasting their money and emotion. They are clearly not up to the task of delivering in LA. The baggage needs to leave and a fresh group of playoff grit types need to arrive over the coarse of a few years while they clean house

  4. DODGER OWNERS DESERVE TO LOSE ALL THE GREAT PEOPLE THEY HAVE. FANS ARE PISSED,HIGH TICKET PRICES, BAD MANGER CHOICE,SIGNING OLD HAS BEEN PLAYERS. COULD BE CORRECTED SIGN BOB AS MANAGER. D.R.THROWED OUT, BOB TOOK OVER AND SHOWED HOW SMART HE IS. BOB WILL LEAVE DOES NOT WANT ASSOCATION W/ D.R. OWNERS TO DAM GREETY
