Jack Flaherty Gets Lit Up in World Series Game 5, Dodgers Fans Don’t Expect Him Back Next Year

The Los Angeles Dodgers put the ball in Jack Flaherty’s hands to try to clinch the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees in Game 5.

He struggled.

Flaherty lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout. Flaherty put the Dodgers in an immediate 4-0 hole, before getting pulled for Anthony Banda.

Following Flaherty’s rough start, Dodgers Nation asked fans on social media if they expect Flaherty — an impending free agent — to return to the team in 2025. A majority of them don’t think so.

The Dodgers acquired Flaherty at the trade deadline for two prospects —  catcher/first baseman Thayron Liranzo and shortstop Trey Sweeney.

Flaherty made 10 starts for L.A. this regular season, going 6-2 with a 3.58 ERA across 55.1 innings pitched.

In the postseason, though, it’s been a mixed bag. He struggled in NLDS Game 2 against the San Diego Padres, before dominating the Mets in NLCS Game 1 against the New York Mets. He then got lit up in NLCS Game 5 against the Mets, before putting in a solid start against the Yankees in World Series Game 1.

One Comment

  1. While game 5 of the WS was not one of his better outings, and he does have a bit of an on/off record, he seems like a solid starting pitcher. For now. Just wait until the Dodgers coaching staff gets ahold of him, bumps up his fastball a few MPH and he needs TJ surgery in 2 years.

    Color me cynical.
