Kiké Hernández Breaks Own News of Signing With Dodgers

Kiké Hernández is returning to the Dodgers for the 2024 season. He decided to break the news himself on social media.

Hernández, 32, appeared to be holding off on signing with a team all offseason hoping to find a way to return to the Dodgers. On Monday, the Dodgers traded Manuel Margot to the Minnesota Twins, making room for the fan favorite to return to Los Angeles.

It didn’t take long after the trade for this deal to come to fruition.

Hernández joins a team that has spent over $1 billion in free agency, and is clearly all-in on winning it all. It’s clear Hernández wanted to be a part of that, and patiently waited for the Dodgers to find a way to make it happen.

In the end, the Dodgers decided to move on from Margot — who they acquired in the Tyler Glasnow trade — paving the way for a Hernández return.

Hernández will fill the role he’s always played with the Dodgers, as a versatile depth piece who can play all over the diamond.

In 54 games with the Dodgers last year after being acquired at the trade deadline, Hernández slashed .262/.308/.423 with five home runs and 30 runs batted in.

  1. Like every other fan, I’m happy to see Kike back on the Dodgers. Once again, Miguel Vargas is the odd man out. I don’t think that AF is done trading so there still might be a chance (although a small one) that Vargas could be on the opening day roster. This trade really has to frustrate Miguel. I hope some team is willing to give up a quality player or players to secure Vargas’s potential. Right now that appears the only chance that Miggie has of making an opening day roster. I wish him a lot of luck.
