Dodgers Rumors: Dino Ebel Reportedly in Consideration for Angels Managerial Opening

Dodgers bench coach among candidates for Angels manager position

Whenever you hear rumors surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels, it usually is on the topic of two-way superstar, Shohei Ohtani. However, the rumors that surround the two neighboring teams today involve the coaching staff.

It was reported this earlier week that by Jon Heyman of the New York Post that Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel is among a list of candidates for the vacant manager position with the Angels.

“Angels coach Benji Gil is a likely candidate, and former Angels stars Torii Hunter, Darin Erstad and Tim Salmon, plus Dodgers coach Dino Ebel may be considered.”

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post

Heyman also reported that former Mets manager Buck Showalter seems to be the favorite for the vacant position.

Ebel originally joined the Dodgers coaching staff in 2019 after spending 12 years as the third base coach with the Angels.

During his time with the Angels, he worked under former Dodgers catcher and Angels legendary manager Mike Scioscia for the 12 years of his career until Scioscia announced he would be stepping down as the Angels skipper after failing to reach the postseason in four years straight for the second time in his career.

The move for Ebel to want to go back to the Angels should be a no-brainer for him as I mentioned earlier, he coached there for the majority of his career and was also part of a winning culture as they reached the playoffs five times during his tenure with them.

Since joining the Dodgers in 2019, Ebel has been a part of one World Series victory and won four division titles.

As a coach, he has quite the resume for himself as there is almost nothing he has not seen during his long career and might be able to instill the winning culture he has had with the Dodgers to the Angels clubhouse as they have yet to make the postseason since 2014.

If Ebel does decide to travel 33 miles down the I-5 south and become the next Angels manager, he will be the fourth manager of the Angels over the last five years.
