Miguel Vargas Injury Update: Dodgers Worked Out Deal With Brewers to Let Rookie Play on Saturday

GLENDALE, AZ – The Dodgers are set to play their first official spring training game tomorrow against the Milwaukee Brewers. On the eve of game day, manager Dave Roberts hinted at what LA’s lineup would look like for the Cactus League lid-lifter. Among the players he mentioned was second baseman Miguel Vargas, who injured his right pinkie finger early in camp.

So, how is he supposed to play in a baseball game if he’s not allowed to swing a bat just yet? Well, Roberts answered that question in a media scrum on Friday.

The Dodgers have apparently worked out a deal with the Brewers to let Vargas play defense but not have to bat in the game. So, kudos to Craig Counsell for actually being relaxed about the rules of baseball for once.

Roberts only has so many games to get his full infield defense together before some players head out to join their fellow countrymen for the World Baseball Classic. So, getting the expected opening day infield together now is ideal.

First pitch for game 1 of the Cactus League season is set for 12:10 PM PT. The game will be broadcast on SportsNet LA and AM570 LA Sports Radio home of the Dodgers.
