MLB Analyst Predicts Dodgers Swing Blockbuster Trade for Cy Young Pitcher

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been active in free agency this offseason, but general manager Brandon Gomes indicated the front office is far from finished.

Starting pitching has been a weak point in recent years, with injuries severely impacting the rotation, especially in the postseason. The Dodgers won the 2024 World Series with just three starting pitchers, further highlighting the need for depth.

For 2025, the Dodgers are projected to have a six-man rotation. Clayton Kershaw has yet to officially re-sign, and retirement remains a possibility after next season. Additionally, Dustin May is recovering from an injury and heading into his final year of arbitration before becoming a free agent.

This is where a potential trade for Sandy Alcantara, the former Cy Young winner with the Miami Marlins, could significantly strengthen their rotation. MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger suggests the Dodgers could be in the market for Alcantara, adding him to a rotation that already includes Kershaw, May, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shohei Ohtani.

“Sandy Alcantara’s traded to the Dodgers,” Amsinger predicted confidently while his co-hosts laughed at him. “Peter Bendix is getting rid of all these guys. If you’ve played in a big league game, you’re gone!”

However, it seems that this move is unlikely for now. According to Craig Mish of Sportsgrid, the Marlins have told Alcantara that he won’t be traded this offseason, effectively closing that door.

Even so, the Dodgers remain focused on improving their starting pitching depth, knowing that solid rotation play is crucial for both the regular season and postseason success.

Although the Marlins are reportedly not looking to trade Alcantara, the Dodgers’ wealth of top prospects could make a compelling case for Miami to reconsider. The Dodgers have the assets to entice the Marlins into a deal, should they decide to entertain offers for the star pitcher.
