MLB News: Dodgers Miss Out on Justin Verlander Who’s Heading Back to Houston

The Los Angeles Dodgers missed out on RHP Justin Verlander, who’s being traded back to the Houston Astros. Bob Nightengale of USA Today was first to report the news.

Verlander was reported to be one of the Dodgers’ top trade targets this deadline, however, he’s now headed back to Houston, for likely a big haul.

Verlander has been heavily linked to LA for the last 24 hours, and at times they were considered the favorite. However, Houston was making a push to bring him back to Houston, and it was reported that he wanted to head back there, too.

In the end, Verlander is heading back to Houston in a three-player swap, as Nightengale reports it’s for two minor league pitchers.

As for the Dodgers, they can now shift their focus to the other starters on the market, mainly Dylan Cease, Jack Flaherty or Eduardo Rodriguez.

The Dodgers still need to add another starting pitcher ahead of the deadline, but it would be better to not add a 40-year-old due $43 million over the next few seasons with a $35 million vesting option in 2025.

Now, the Dodgers can pool their prospects together for the top starting on the market, Cease, or go a little smaller with a package for Flaherty or Rodriguez.
