MLB News: Rumored Dodgers Trade Target Sent to Marlins in Deal

The Dodgers missed out on another rumored trade target on Thursday night as the New Yorks Mets signaled a sell off starting with All-Star reliever David Robertson. The 38-year-old veteran with 171 career saves is staying in the NL East and going to the Miami Marlins.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported the trade late in the evening and it was confirmed by Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

The Dodgers certainly had interest in Robertson as a boost to a bullpen that has struggled for the greater part of the season. Despite better results of late, there’s still a clear need for relief help to join Evan Phillips, Brusdar Graterol, and company at the backend of the bullpen.

On the season, LA’s 4.16 reliever ERA is 12th worst in baseball.

With the veteran hurler off the market, the Dodger front office will likely turn its attention to guys like Scott Barlow of the Royals, potentially Jordan Hicks of the Cardinals, and old friend Joe Kelly of the White Sox. Kelly was recently linked to LA by Fansided’s Robert Murray.

There are just over four days until the 3 PM PT August 1st trade deadline.
