Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman Return to Dodgers Lineup For Freeway Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers will welcome back two of their biggest stars to the lineup for Sunday’s exhibition matchup against the Los Angeles Angels.

Dodgers superstar infielders Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are back in the lineup for the Freeway Series opener.

Betts is back in the lineup after missing the Tokyo Series due to an illness. Freeman missed the Opening Day matchup with left rib discomfort.

The pair have now returned just days before the Dodgers’ domestic Opening Day.

Betts will start at shortstop, which is set to be his primary position this season. That was the plan for the 32-year-old last season; however, due to injuries, L.A. had to resort to Betts playing right field once again.

Entering the 2025 season, Betts is expected to stay in the infield, a position he has worked extremely hard at.

A week ago, former five-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove shortstop Troy Tulowitzki had high praise for the three-time World Series Champion, saying he believes Betts could be an elite infield defender.

“I wouldn’t say this for anybody else that’s just spent however many years in the outfield and then go to the infield,” Tulowitzki said of a position change that has no equivalent in recent baseball history. “But I can truly tell you, I think he can be an elite defender at the position — which is just crazy to say.”

As for Freeman, the reigning World Series MVP will play in his first game in quite some time. Although Freeman didn’t play in the first two regular season games, he did play in both of the Dodgers’ Tokyo Dome exhibition games against the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers.

The 35-year-old star will be back in his primary position as the defending champions are finally back to complete form.
