Mookie Betts Has His Eyes Set on One Big Goal Before Dodgers Contract Ends

It’s hard to believe that Mookie Betts is now in his fourth season with the Dodgers. It’s harder to believe sometimes that he’ll be a Dodger until he’s 39. The LA outfielder has accomplished a lot in his big league career and has already stamped his name among the greats in Dodger history.

But he has one more thing he wants to accomplish in his MLB career.

First, let’s look at the greatness that is Markus Lynn Betts. Since getting into the league as a 21 year old in Boston, Mookie has accumulated 56.2 bWAR (and counting). He has a league MVP — 2018 AL MVP award winner — and was an MVP runner up as a Dodger in 2020. And he’ll be a consensus top-10 player in the game for years to come.

He’s also a two time World Series champion, 2018 with Boston and 2020 with Los Angeles.

Mookie Betts has done it all in baseball… so what’s left for the now 30-year-old?

He wants to be a Hall of Famer.

Betts opened up to Kevin Hart in a recent episode of Cold as Balls on the LOL Network. Kevin asked Mookie what else he wants to do in the game of baseball.

“The last thing for me is just becoming a Hall of Famer.”

The question was asked on Sports Illustrated after the 2021 season. Is Betts already a Hall of Famer? One excerpt from the column (which is worth a read) seems to point toward yes. (And this was before his 2022 season where he hit a career-high 35 home runs, accumulated a 6.4 bWAR and finished fifth in MVP voting in the National League.)

His seven-year peak isn’t just better than the average enshrinee; it’s the best of any right fielder who has debuted in the last six decades.

The rest of the chat with Mookie and Kevin Hart is absolutely worth a watch. Kevin gets the potential future Hall of Famer to share some interesting facts. And he even clowns him on his hairline.

New episodes of Cold As Balls will air each Tuesday on the Laugh Out Loud YouTube channel, Cold As Balls Facebook page, and Hart’s Facebook page.
