Don Mattingly, born on April 20, 1961, in Evansville, Indiana, is a former professional baseball player and manager who is currently the bench coach for the Toronto Blue Jays. He is best known for his time with the New York Yankees, where he played his entire 14-season Major League Baseball (MLB) career from 1982 to 1995.
Mattingly was a standout first baseman, known for his exceptional fielding skills and powerful left-handed swing. He earned the nickname “Donnie Baseball” and became one of the most beloved Yankees players in the team’s history. Mattingly’s number 23 was retired by the Yankees to honor his contributions to the franchise.
During his playing career, Mattingly was a six-time All-Star and won nine Gold Glove Awards for his outstanding defensive play at first base. He also won the American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in 1985, a testament to his exceptional skills and leadership on the field.

In 2016, Mattingly became the manager of the Miami Marlins. During his tenure with the Marlins, he played a significant role in the team’s development and led them to the playoffs in 2020, marking the franchise’s first postseason appearance since 2003.
