Rival NL West Manager Sent Dave Roberts One-Word Text After Dodgers Signed Roki Sasaki
The Los Angeles Dodgers are making it difficult for their opponents to compete with them and the season hasn’t even started yet.
At least that’s how Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black feels about the Dodgers adding Roki Sasaki.
Black is part of a group chat with longtime baseball figures, including Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. The message Black sent in the chat was brief and to the point:
“Really?”
The Rockies are young and inexperienced, but compared to the Dodgers, the are vulnerable.
Anyone expecting the Rockies to finish with a winning record this season is either overly optimistic or disconnected from reality.
While they have some promising players, such as shortstop Ezequiel Tovar, center fielder Brenton Doyle, and power-hitting first baseman Michael Toglia, they simply don’t have enough talent to compete — especially not when it comes to a lineup that features Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernández and a slew of others.

Gone are the days of Charlie Blackmon patrolling the outfield at Coors Field putting Colorado in the midst of a long-overdue youth movement, though it hasn’t been explicitly stated until now. The team’s win totals over the past three seasons – 68, 59, and 61 — speak volumes.
Beating the Dodgers, or anyone else in the NL West, has been out of reach and the result of the upcoming season seems inevitable – build towards making 2026 a season of genuine hope.
“We are looking for growth from the young kids,” general manager Bill Schmidt said.
When it comes to pitching, the Rockies have German Marquez and Antonio Senzatela. The Dodgers have Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Sasaki, Tony Gonsolin. and Dustin May.
The Rockies have no chance. They’re stuck in a division with three contenders and a reigning World Series champion stacked with the best talent seen in decades.
At least manager Bud Black has a good attitude about it, though.
