Shohei Ohtani Reacts to First Career Home Run for Dodgers

Shohei Ohtani hit the first home run of his Dodgers career on Wednesday, a 430-foot missile that left his bat at 105.6 mph.

The homer came in his 37th at-bat of the season, and after getting off to a slow start, he finally gave the Dodger Stadium faithful something to cheer about in his final at-bat of the home stand.

After the game, Ohtani said he was “relieved” to finally hit his first home run of the season.

“Honestly, very relieved that I was able to hit my first home run,” Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton. “It’s been a while, and honestly, my swing hasn’t been great. So overall, very relieved.”

The Dodgers and their fans are relieved, too, as they were anxiously waiting for Ohtani to break out after a semi-slow start to the season.

And on Wednesday, he did it in impressive fashion.

On the year, Ohtani is now slashing .270/.317/.432 with one home run, three doubles and four runs batted in.

The Dodgers are off on Thursday before beginning their first United States road trip of the season with three games against the Cubs in Chicago followed by three games in Minnesota against the Twins.
