Spring Training Preview: Gaudin On The Mound, Dickson Starts At First
After a full day of baseball and multiple home runs, the Los Angeles Dodgers are again saddled up and ready to play yet another split-squad game Saturday. Friday’s games were quite eventful, as the Dodgers hit five home runs in one game, and Clayton Kershaw suffered a chipped tooth in the other.
The Dodgers who remained in Arizona face the Colorado Rockies at Talking Stick at Salt River Fields. With several young players in Texas for Big League Weekend, the Dodgers’ lineup is full of veterans. After some shuffling, Chad Gaudin takes the mound in what will be his fourth appearance of the spring but first start.
In three relief appearances thus far, Gaudin has pitched a combined 4.0 scoreless innings while only allowing one hit and recording seven strikeouts. Opposing Gaudin is Jhoulys Chacin, who is making his second start of the spring. In his 6.2 innings, Chacin has given up three runs on nine hits.
With Adrian Gonzalez in San Antonio, O’Koyea Dickson gets the start at first base. He flashed power early in the spring, though it has waned off recently. However, Dickson still carries a .357 batting average, which is impressive for the young prospect.
Mike Adams, Chris Hatcher, Dustin McGowan and Sergio Santos are relievers available in Saturday’s game. The 1:05 p.m. PT start can be watched on Time Warner Cable’s SportsNet LA and is available on AM 570 LA Sports.
