Spring Training Preview: Clayton Kershaw Starts Second Game Of Spring
After coming from behind and finishing Monday’s game in a draw with the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Dodgers continue with their Cactus League schedule by facing another NL West foe in the Colorado Rockies Tuesday afternoon at Camelback Ranch.
Clayton Kershaw takes the mound for the Dodgers in what will be his second start of the spring. In his first outing, Kershaw threw two hitless innings while also striking out three batters.
Opposing Kershaw will be one of the Rockies’ top pitching prospects in Eddie Butler. A first round pick in 2012, Butler was called up to the Majors last season and made a total of three starts, with two coming against the Dodgers. Both starts resulted in Dodger wins with Butler only taking a loss in one.
A shoulder injury forced Butler to the disabled list shortly after the young right-hander made his debut against the Dodgers. He made two starts late in the season and enters the Spring fighting for a roster spot.
The Rockies were also coming off a tie. In their last game, they ended in a 2-2 draw with the Cincinnati Reds.
Carl Crawford returns to left field after suffering a minor shin bruise during Saturday’s game. He was used as a designated hitter Monday but was retired in all three at-bats.
As for the infield, top prospect Corey Seager continues his impressive Spring and starts at shortstop. Seager has appeared in six games while batting .375/.583/.625.
