Bryan Reynolds Rumors: Dodgers Still Linked, Insider Thinks Pirates ‘Make Deal They Like’

The Dodgers have had so much depth and talent in this dominant ten-year run that we’ve all witnessed.

It seemed like it would never end. All-Star after All-Star, ace after ace, but after a slow off-season where L.A. lost more than they’ve gained, including former MVP and All-Star Cody Bellinger, L.A. is looking relatively thin at some key positions.

One of the positions where the Dodgers seem the most slim is in the outfield. L.A. signed a couple of players to a minor league deal and has some players in-house ready to take the everyday role, but will that be the right decision?

The Dodgers have been linked to a handful of proven outfielders this off-season, including Pirates all-star Bryan Reynolds, and even though that has died down a bit, one MLB Insider brought it back up in a recent article.

ESPN’s Buster Olney had this to say about Reynolds and L.A.

“And since nobody has mentioned Reynolds, I’ll mention him. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Yankees, Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners are among the teams that could use an outfielder, so with so many potential trade partners, I think the Pirates make a deal they like.”

A handful of teams that need an outfielder have been linked to the 27-year-old; however, Olney believes a potential trade won’t happen in the off-season but during the summer.

Acquiring a talent like Reynolds would be a huge plus for Los Angeles; however, the price may be a bit too high for their liking.

In December, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal said in a Bleacher Report article that Pittsburgh may be looking for a “Juan Soto type” trade for the one-time all-star.

“Yes, the Pirates are willing to entertain moving center fielder Bryan Reynolds, if only because clubs are almost always willing to listen to trade offers. Teams interested in Reynolds, however, say the price tag is similar to what it was in the past—exceedingly high.”

If the price remains that high, L.A. shouldn’t even bother. Yes, Reynolds would be an upgrade, but he’s not worth it for that price. The Dodgers’ outfield looks less appealing than in years past, but they might just have to adjust with who they have at the moment.

  1. I think the dodgers are probably to high on Diego cartaya. He’s got the tools but seems like he’s taking to time progressing. We have Will smith hopefully for a long while. So they offer a package of Cartaya and Outman that should be enough to get Reynolds. It’s bold but it’s reasonable. But it’s probably way to much for Friedman and Guggenheim.

  2. With the bottom dwelling Bellinger and Gallo being replaced by dynamic rookies such as Outman and Vargas, and Betts, Taylor, and Thompson returning, why anybody thinks the OF is worse than last year is beyond me. And if the kids aren’t ready, they can dip into their fat money and prospect resources mid season, and pick up what they need.

  3. Reynolds is overrated. No way do I trade one of our top pitching prospects for him. Especially when we will probably lose Urias after this season. Kersh may not come back next year after he gets to 200 wins.

    1. Jim, I agree 100% with you. Reynolds is nothing more than average to slightly above average. He doesn’t warrant the Pirates getting Miller, Stone or Grove. If the Dodgers have to replace Urias & Kershaw next year & possibly Gonsolin or May due to continued arm issues, where do the replacements come from.

  4. Hopefully we don’t lose Urias and Buehler comes back healthy. I still don’t know why we let Bauer walk away….was he not healthy?
