The Dodgers Gave JD Martinez a Hollywood Welcome
After the Dodgers officially signed designated hitter JD Martinez on Thursday, the team made sure to give a warm welcome by posting a cool hype video to celebrate.
L.A.’s social media team compiled a highlight video that displayed exactly why people refer to him as “Just Dingers”.

It’s clear Martinez lives up to the greatness of his nickname, and the Dodgers are one team in particular that know all about it.
In 2017, J.D. had a four-homer game against them while playing for the Diamondbacks. During that time, Los Angeles was already in a slump, and Martinez took advantage by homering off Rich Hill, Wilmer Font, Pedro Baez, and Josh Fields in that September game.
In his 12-year career, Martinez has 282 career homers and has averaged 36 homers per 162 games. He made a significant jump after his career-altering swing change prior to the 2014 season.
Since 2014, his .547 slugging percentage is the seventh-highest in the league among players with at least 1,000 plate appearances Among players who played that entire time, he is ranked the third-highest, trailing Mike Trout and Nolan Arenado.
Though Martinez was not as explosive in 2022, fans are looking forward to all the hype— and dingers— that he can bring to Dodger Stadium in 2023.
