The Giants’ New PA Announcer Is a Dodger Fan

Anyone who has attended a game outside of Dodger Stadium is well aware that Dodger fans are everywhere. Last season, only the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees drew better on the road.

This year, Dodger fans are popping up everywhere again — even in the San Francisco Giants’ PA booth.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants’ newest public address announcer is Carolyn “CJ” Silas, a seasoned announcer and broadcaster from San Luis Obispo.

San Luis Obispo is geographically central to the Bay Area and Southern California, but it’s clear where Silas’ heart stands. Writes the Chronicle’s Alex Simon,

As local San Francisco journalist Steven Rissotto initially pointed out on social media, Silas is a born-and-raised Dodgers fan. A native of Los Angeles, she’s repped her Dodger blue rather proudly on Facebook over the years, even posting that she watched a few games of the 2020 World Series at Dodger Stadium (from her car). Perhaps anticipating a wave of negative comments on Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, Silas turned both accounts private shortly before first pitch.

In fairness to Silas, she’s merely chasing a dream. A recent feature story in the San Luis Obispo Tribune quotes Silas as saying she’s pursued PA announcer opportunities with the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago Cubs in the past. She happened to grow up a fan of the Dodgers. Now, at 57, she’s still willing to go wherever her ideal job might take her.

The San Francisco job is a temporary one. Last week, the Giants announced they were looking for a new PA announcer to replace Renel Brooks-Moon and would try out different candidates during the 2024 season.

Here’s hoping one Dodger fan can make her lifelong dream come true — we won’t tell the Giants where her loyalties lie.
