Walker Buehler, Gavin Lux Working Out at Dodger Stadium Amid Injury Recoveries

Pitchers and catchers report to camp in a few weeks, but players are still getting work done. Earlier this week, Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler and shortstop Gavin Lux were seen working out at Dodger Stadium:

Both players, coming back from significant injury, are eager to get back on the diamond and contribute to the 2024 campaign.

Lux tore his ACL early in spring training last year. He had it repaired and spent the entire offseason rehabbing his knee to take over as the starting shortstop.

Buehler underwent his second Tommy John surgery in late 2022. He started 12 games that year but each outing seemed like a grind to get through. His fastball velocity dropped significantly and he struggled to locate his offspeed pitches. The Dodgers placed him on the injured list in mid-June and he has not pitched since.

In 2023, the Dodgers hoped that maybe Buehler could make his way back to the mound for a late-September or postseason run. However, his recovery from bullpen sessions did not go well enough for him to return.

Now, both these players return to a loaded roster looking to play major roles this season. The Dodgers will ask Lux to pick up where he barely left off last year as the starting shortstop. After adding Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow, Buehler likely pitches third or fourth in the rotation.

Alongside the exciting signings of Shohei Ohtani, Yamamoto, and others, it’ll be great for Dodger fans to see these two homegrown talents play again this year.

  1. Yes, truly great to be a Dodgers fan! I am also a believer that the Dodgers will grab Josh Hader. Their bullpen is a little low on lefty pitching, so Hader fits the bill.

Though less likely, there is a distant possibility the Dodgers will bring back both Revor Bauer and Julio Urias. And maybe Bauer this coming year. Wow. This seems unlikely given Bauer’s controversy and the reluctance of the Dodgers to violate their normal philosophy of being squeaky clean. But he was cleared of wrong doings. So he might be the better candidate to join the Dodgers for the 2024 campaign.

    1. Hae you lost your mind? Neither Bauer or Urias will ever wear a Dodger uniform again. Period. No chance in heck.
