Why is Tommy Edman Out of Dodgers Lineup Wednesday vs Marlins?
Superstar utility man Tommy Edman was surprisingly out of the lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ series finale against the Miami Marlins.
Edman was also out of the lineup on Monday, but ended up pinch-hitting in the eighth inning, and even hit the walk-off, two-run single in the 10th inning.

While Edman being out of the lineup twice in three games was a surprise, there doesn’t appear to be any true cause for concern. Although Edman tweaked his ankle in Tuesday’s win over the Marlins, the Dodgers just wanted to get Edman a true day off before they play 10 straight games starting on Friday. The Dodgers also want to keep Kiké Hernández fresh as he looks to find consistency at the plate this season.
Edman has become a diamond in the rough for the Dodgers this year. He’s slashing .252/.295/.523 with eight home runs, 24 RBIs, and an OPS of .818. He’s on pace to have by far the best offensive season of his career.
The Dodgers will look for Edman to get a full day off on Wednesday — as well as another scheduled off-day on Thursday — before returning to the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves.
