Yankees’ Aaron Boone Takes Hilarious Shot at Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Ahead of World Series

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Yankees manager Aaron Boone will take their place on the top step of their respective dugouts on Friday as the Fall Classic commences, but the rivalry between the two began on the baseball diamond back in 1992.

Roberts was a freshman outfielder for UCLA and Boone was a freshman third baseman for USC. Roberts hit leadoff, while Boone batted sixth.

Though UCLA scored seven early runs, the Trojans came back to win the matchup, 13-8. Like most deep-seated rivalries, the 1992 matchup between the Bruins and USC was unforgettable.

As anybody who lives in Los Angeles knows, the allegiance to either Los Angeles school is strong. Boone took the opportunity to highlight his pride for his alma mater ahead of Game 1 of the World Series.

“You’re a Trojan for life. You’re a Bruin for four years,” Boone bluntly said.

However, the rivalry between Roberts and Boone didn’t take a pause once they reached their professional careers.

When Roberts and Boone reached the majors, their rivalry became bi-coastal. Roberts was a member of the Boston Red Sox, while Boone played for the Yankees.

The renowned baseball franchises met back to back years in the American League Championship Series in 2003 and 2004. Boone hit a walk-off home run to send New York to the Fall Classic in 2003.

The following year, Roberts stole a base in Game 4 of the ALCS that was labeled the turning point for Boston’s eventual World Series championship.

The rivalry reaches its peak in the latest clash between Roberts and Boone. They’ve had several matchups, but none like this one. This time Roberts sports Dodger blue, Boone dons the classic pinstripes.

The World Series is the epitome of matchups. It’s as if the journey of both Roberts and Boone have led up to this very moment. Once rivals in college, to American League rivals in the majors, to managing the best two teams in baseball.

Roberts is Hollywood, Boone is Broadway. But only one will get to hold the trophy. And only one will get the last laugh.

Who that is remains to be said.
