All the Best Dodgers Opening Day Highlights: New Banner, Gibby Met Freddie, Ohtani, Teo Homers

The Los Angeles Dodgers experienced a historic Opening Day at Chavez Ravine Thursday afternoon. While Hollywood has the red carpet, the defending champions jogged down a blue carpet in center field donning new gold uniforms.

L.A. icon Ice Cube made a victory lap in a blue convertible carrying The Commissioner’s Trophy. A pair of fire department officials unveiled the 2024 championship banner.

And then, the past greeted the present. Kirk Gibson surprised the Freeman family and an electric Dodger Stadium crowd.

The hobbled heroes of the past and present teamed up for the ceremonial first pitch. Gibson took the mound, while Freeman stood behind home plate. The two embraced after the toss, and the crowd naturally erupted in cheers.

But the fun didn’t end there.

The defending champions were tasked with facing reigning American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers for their first home game of the regular season. The Dodgers rewarded the sold-out crowd at Chavez Ravine with a 5-4 comeback win.

Tommy Edman continued to prove he was one of L.A.’s best pickups by hitting a solo homer. Teoscar Hernández, who re-signed with the Dodgers this winter, hit a three-run bomb as if to say he was back where he needed to be.

And of course, Shohei Ohtani blasted one in the seventh inning to conclude the Opening Day festivities and secure the victory.

The Dodgers did not disappoint in their home opener. The team honored the past, while also highlighting their bright future.

As many have said this offseason, no one does it better than the Dodgers.
