Andrew Friedman Has Epic Quote to Dodgers Signing Blake Snell
The Los Angels Dodgers have officially introduced Blake Snell as the next great member of the rotation.
Snell was introduced at his press conference on Tuesday, and spoke about his excitement to join the reigning World Series champions.
Snell was on stage with Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes, and his agent, Scott Boras.
As Friedman gave his introductory words before opening it up to the media for questions, he had an epic quote on L.A.’s pursuit of Snell, citing a famous old adage.
“If you can’t beat him,” Friedman said, “just have him join us.”
Snell has dominated the Dodgers throughout his career, sporting a 2.62 ERA with 86 strikeouts across 68.2 regular season innings against L.A. Snell has been even more dominant at Dodger Stadium in his career, sporting a 2.03 ERA with 39 strikeouts across 31 innings pitched.
Snell is coming off a 2024 season in which he was arguably the best pitcher in baseball in the second half. In 12 starts in the second half of the year, Snell went 5-0 with a 1.45 ERA across 68.1 innings pitched with 103 strikeouts.
While Snell has already had a dominant career — including winning two Cy Young awards in 2018 and 2023 — Friedman and the Dodgers believe Snell’s best is still ahead of him.
“Blake has won two Cy Youngs. We feel there is potentially room for more there,” Friedman said. “Just the continued maturation, development, his strong desire to win and be great, and how well that fits into our culture, we felt this was a perfect match.”
Snell will wear No. 7 with the Dodgers and is looking forward to joining a team that already won it all last season.
“It’s fun to know you’re joining a team with that experience. Being able to learn from that, I’m excited,” Snell said. “I’ve been there. I failed. They’ve been there. They’ve succeeded. I want to do what I can do to help get them to the World Series.”
