Cubs Make Massive Roster Shuffle Ahead of Season Finale vs Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers will be taking on a slightly different Chicago Cubs team Wednesday, despite losing to Chicago less than 24 hours ago.
Ahead of the second and final game of the set at Wrigley Field, the Cubs made a flurry of roster edits going into the series finale, including a somewhat familiar face to the Dodgers.

Chicago signed former Los Angeles Angels utility man Nicky Lopez to a one-year deal, days after the Halos designated him for assignment and he subsequently cleared waivers. Lopez opted to not stay in the Angels organization and test free agency, which seems to have worked out for him.
The Cubs also selected the contract of southpaw Drew Pomeranz, who hasn’t appeared in MLB since a dominant stretch of the 2021 season. The one-time All-Star has since been bouncing around the minor league track while dealing with his share of injuries, but made eight appearances with the Dodgers Triple-A Oklahoma City team last season.
Chicago also designated Gage Workman for assignment and optioned Gavin Hollowell back to Triple-A. Additionally, Cubs All-Star southpaw Justin Steele was added to the 60-day IL after his recent season-ending elbow surgery.
The Dodgers will do whatever they can to get back into the win column after Tuesday evening’s heart-wrenching ending. A back-and-forth slug fest ended in the Cubs’ favor, 11-10, in walk-off fashion after 10 innings.
The Dodgers may have some roster moves of their own, too.
