Dodgers’ Blake Snell Suffers Setback, Shut Down From Throwing For Now

The Los Angeles Dodgers have shut down two-time Cy Young award winner Blake Snell from throwing after he suffered an apparent setback in his rehab program.

Snell hasn’t appeared in a game since the beginning of April and has since hit the injured list with shoulder inflammation.

Per The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, manager Dave Roberts reported Snell “didn’t feel great” after the southpaw was playing catch on Tuesday. It’s possible that Snell will go for additional imaging on his shoulder when the team returns to Los Angeles on Thursday or Friday.

Most recently, Roberts provided an update on the southpaw that came across as a somewhat positive reveal. The skipper insinuated that Snell’s return to throwing off a mound would be imminent, as soon as this week.

With this most recent setback on the road to his recovery, there is no longer a timeline for when fans can expect him to be back and healthy.

Snell was off to a productive start to the Dodgers chapter of his professional baseball career, but by his standards, it was still somewhat unfamiliar. Over two starts, Snell had a 2.00 ERA and a 1-0 record, but allowed 10 hits and seven runs (only two earned( during those nine total innings.

Snell has only generated four strikeouts to eight walks in a Dodgers uniform, which is mind-boggling compared to his career 2.76 strikeout-to-walk ratio before joining L.A.

The All-Star is notoriously a second-half pitcher as Snell has proven how much better he performs when the lights get brighter. Over his career, he has a 3.95 ERA over the first half of the season compared to a 2.32 mark on the back half of each season.

His winning percentage also jumps from .426 before the All-Star break compared to a .721 percentage after it.

The Dodgers know the importance of Snell being healthy later in the year, so they want to be extra cautious with him in April.

  1. For crying out loud! Where’s Gonsolin? Did he strain something getting out of his car? Or did he break a leg running off the field?
