Dodgers’ Blake Treinen Making Significant Progress Toward Return to Team

While it may be a minute before seeing Los Angeles Dodgers top right-handed reliever Blake Treinen on a big league mound, he is making significant progress.

According to OC Register’s Bill Plunkett, Treinen threw to hitters earlier this week, will throw to hitters on Saturday and is expected to go on a rehab assignment next week.

“Treinen threw to hitters for the second time this week and said he is feeling no effect from the injury he suffered at the end of the Cactus League schedule. He will throw to hitters again on Saturday and is expected to go on a rehab assignment while the Dodgers are on the road next week.”

The Dodgers desperately need help from their bullpen, so this is an excellent sign of possibly getting back a key arm sooner rather than later. The Dodgers bullpen has been a disaster.

Entering their game on April 20 against the New York Mets, the Boys in Blue are ranked 19 in team bullpen ERA at 4.38. The bullpen has also allowed 80 hits, 47 earned runs, 14 home runs, and a 1.17 WHIP. Things haven’t been pretty for the Dodgers on that front, and it hasn’t helped that many of their key arms have missed the start of the season.

When Treinen returns, he will provide a massive boost to the bullpen. In his career as a Dodger, the 35-year-old has collected a 2.45 ERA, 113 strikeouts, 3.00 FIP, and a 1.01 WHIP in 103 innings and 104 games.

The former All-Star is still recovering from a rib injury he suffered last month during a spring training exhibition against the Texas Rangers. Early in his appearance, a hard comebacker went directly at his ribs, and he went down in pain. That is the last we see of Treinen on the mound in 2024.

Soon enough, Los Angeles should have a reliable arm out of the pen, and hopefully, all will follow suit.

  1. Blake Treinen is a top quality relief pitcher for the Didgers and is desperately needed not only for the regular season but for the Championship run in the playoffs. I saw him pitch many times in Oakland. He is a quality team player too.
We’re pulling for him and need him desperately.
