Dodgers Cactus League opener vs. San Diego Padres: How to watch, predictions, and more

Four months and 11 days after the Dodgers last played a game that counted, they’re back on the field today in Peoria, Arizona to kick off the Cactus League season against the San Diego Padres.

Michael Grove and Gavin Stone will pitch for the Dodgers. Although neither pitcher is necessarily expected to begin the season on the 26-man roster, both have a chance to contribute at some point this season even if they begin the season at Triple-A. Joe Musgrove is starting for the Padres.

Others expected to pitch for the Dodgers include Alex Vesia, Elieser Hernandez, Stephen Gonsalves, Eduardo Salazar, Kevin Gowdy, and Ricky Vanasco.

First pitch is scheduled for 12:10 PT from the Peoria Sports Complex.

How to Watch

SportsNet LA will televise the game in the Los Angeles market and stream the game via its app.

ESPN is airing the game nationally out-of-market.

570-AM will carry the English radio broadcast of the game; KTNQ (1020-AM) will carry the game in Spanish.

Fans in the San Diego area can listen to the game on KWFN (97.3-FM)

Predictions

It’s only spring training. Games can end in ties. Substitutions will be liberal. Don’t expect the regular players for either team to remain in the game as long as they would during the regular season.

Also, it’s still early enough in camp that the pitchers will be ahead of the hitters in terms of their readiness for the season. Expect a low-scoring contest. Final score: Dodgers 2, Padres 1.

More

Shohei Ohtani, the reigning American League MVP who is working his way back from major elbow surgery at the end of last season, will not make his Los Angeles Dodgers debut today.
