Dodgers Reliever Takes Big Step Toward Big League Return

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed relief pitcher Connor Brogdon is making progress to return to a big league mound.

Brogdon, who is dealing with a foot injury, started his rehab assignment with the Dodgers’ Triple-A Oklahoma City affiliate. The right-hander pitched a perfect sixth inning with a groundout and two strikeouts on Sunday. The 29-year-old was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 13 due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

He will likely make a couple more appearances in the minors before the Dodgers feel comfortable bringing him back from the IL. The Dodgers have already suffered short-term losses from their arms this season, including Evan Phillips, Brusadar Graterol, Bobby Miller, and Ryan Brasier.

The California native was traded to the Dodgers from the Phillies on April 6 in exchange for minor league southpaw Benony Robles. In one appearance with the Dodgers, Brodgon has allowed two hits, two earned runs, and two home runs in his lone inning against the Minnesota Twins on April 9, before getting placed on the IL.

With the Phillies, Brogdon appeared in three games and recorded a 0-1 record pitching in two innings, allowing three hits, six earned runs, two home runs, and three strikeouts.

The right-handed pitcher has struggled mightily in 2024. Brogdon is a former 10th-round draft pick by the Phillies in 2017. He holds a career 3.97 ERA, 146 strikeouts, and a 1.26 WHIP with a 10-8 record in 143 games and 145 innings.
