Dodgers: Cody Bellinger and Zach McKinstry Start Rehab Assignments This Week

The Dodgers are closing in on getting back to a healthy lineup. With so many guys on the injured list to start the year, that didn’t seem like a possibility. They will continue to be without some of their main pieces, but a few will return soon.

Zach McKinstry and Cody Bellinger are 2 big names that have been out of the lineup. McKinstry has not played since April 22nd against San Diego. Bellinger was hurt in the second series of the year in Oakland. Naturally, the Dodgers have had some trouble replacing those productive bats.

But the good news is that both guys should be making a return soon. Dave Roberts said that they would be joining the Oklahoma City Dodgers by this weekend to start their rehab assignments before returning to the big league team.

He’s [Bellinger] probably going to go out over the weekend and join them in OKC kind of with McKinstry. …I don’t know exactly the dates, but I’m more optimistic that Zach will arrive before Cody. Just because of the fact that Cody has been out much longer.

Bellinger needing more time than McKinstry isn’t much of a surprise. He took just 28 at-bats in Spring Training before getting hurt in the 5th game of the year. He’ll need to get some more swings with Oklahoma City before being ready to go.

Getting those 2 back in the lineup by the end of the month isn’t entirely out of the question. From what it sounds like, it’s entirely possible they at least get McKinstry back following the road trip to San Francisco and Houston.

The Dodgers are 23-18 and find themselves just 2 games out of first place. And they did that without a lot of key guys in their lineup.
